New Enrollment Requirements- Open Institute  

Open Institute programs are designed for the non-traditional student building creative skills.  AFI now requires all students registering for the first time to complete an online enrollment application before registering for a program or class.  Students 13 to 17 enrollment application and class registration must be completed by a parent or guardian.  Click here to complete the online application.

Dive into the world of pattern making using your own measurements to make a garment.  This introductory class covers the tools, materials, and process of simple flat pattern making.  This class is a prerequisite to all other Open Institute pattern classes.

Fundamentals of Sewing- $ 69.00

Fundamentals of Sewing is a suggested class for those new to sewing.  This 2.5 hour class covers fundamental knowledge to begin sewing.  This includes but is not limited to selecting a good machine, cutting and preparing fabric, using proper needles and threads and more...

The Focus Pack program is comprised of 5 classes to keep you focused on your creativity.  Sewing 1, Sewing 2, Sewing 3, Finishing Techniques and Working with Commercial Patterns

This program consist of a 2 session Sewing I class, Working with Commercial Patterns, and Sewing 2.  The purpose of the class is to take the learning from the fundamentals of sewing to reading commercial patterns and using the learned skills to construct a full size garment with zipper, waistband and a buttonhole.
