All core and elective courses listed in this catalog are developed and delivered to prepare students for entry-level jobs in apparel production companies and in administrative fields related to the fashion industry.  Each course of study strengthens a students ability to execute and demonstrate readiness for employment opportunities within the Education to Employment ecosystem of AGEE FASHION INSTITUTE and its subsidiaries.  Each course may be taken individually when prerequisites are met. All classes have a late registration deadline of two weeks after original deadline. 

This course introduces students to all aspects of the fashion industry. Topics include career choices, industry affiliates and business practices.

C 101: Color Analogies and Relations (3 Units)

Students explore how color influences fashion and buying habits. Team projects and presentations are required to demonstrate understanding.

FA 102: Beginning Fashion Sketching (3 Units)

Students will learn various types of sketches and when to use each. Exploration of gesture, flat and fashion sketching is introduced using tools, materials and other medium used by fashion designers.

FA 104: Flat Sketching and Specifications I (3 Units)

Students strengthen their knowledge by focusing on the skills needed to convey concepts on paper as a technical sketch. Garment proportion, silhouette, construction lines, and other details are explored.

This course gives students the basics of drawing the 9 body figure. Students will learn the rules of drawing freehand.

Students continue developing flat patterns using half scale slopers. Exploration of details and design lines for full scale drafts are stressed. The bodice, skirt, and sleeve are developed in the introductory course.

Students use learned concepts to develop a second set of personal slopers. This intermediate course focuses on creating more complex designs.

Students explore various study methods, techniques, and expand skills learned in prior pattern making courses. Students develop patterns used to mass produce garments.  Proficiency in the basics of grading and marker making is required.

This course introduces the learner to the basics of draping garments on a full scale dress form. Students will explore various methods to create simple garments.

Students learn to drape five basic pieces to create masters using the full body dress form. A demonstrated proficiency in pattern making is required to take this class.

FA 310: Industry Sewing (3 Units)

This sewing course focuses on the order of operations when constructing  garments. The course is designed to help the student become efficient and quick when sewing garments with the industrial straight stitch machine. Students explore assembly and best practices make a garment ready for the retail rack.

Students move to more complex intermediate garments such as pants, and unlined jackets while focusing on the inner construction of a garment.

Students spend the majority of their class time constructing garments from preciously developed lines in their portfolio. Students create timing charts and mock production schedules to establish deliveries based on client requirements.

Students explore the methods of grading in relation to industry size increases. The importance of exact measurements is stressed.  Projects utilizing live company standards are expected.

Students assist in the planning of a fashion show. Students demonstrate the ability to work within a budget, choose and hire models, create public relations materials, select music and more.

Students explore the process of retail buying. Buying for price points, sales planning open to buy and stock to order is discovered.

FM 210: Visual Merchandising (3 Units)

Students are presented with many options of display tools and equipment including fixtures, mannequins, signage, and props to provide visual themes.  The psychology of affecting the buying habits of customers is explored.

Students discover and use various props and equipment to create visual moods with the intention of showcasing an online clothing store.

This course introduces the learner to manufacturing processes when dealing with costing, specification sheets, size ratios, merchandising and timelines.  The requirements of starting, building, and maintaining a company is explored.

Students interested in pursuing a career in sewing, alterations or freelance designing for clients will learn step by step how to start, build and maintain a sewing business.

This course focuses on the end to end process of apparel manufacturing addressing theory and practical skills needed to work in an apparel manufacturing company. The demonstrated use of industry machines, technology, pattern drafting, grading, marking, and draping are required.

IMO 100: Industry Machine Operations (3 Units)

This course prepares students to pursue industry jobs found in the production environment of an apparel manufacturing company. Students work in a real world environment learning to use the industrial straight stitch, Serger, and industry cutting equipment used to mass produce clothing. Logistics management is introduced.
